Gimnasia vs Estudiantes

Gimnasia LP produced their worst performance last Monday: they were never able to find their rhythm and suffered a surprising 2–0 defeat away to Barracas Central. After a strong start to the season, El Lobo remain on six points after the first four rounds of the Torneo Apertura, with two wins and two losses so far. In fact, Fernando Zaniratto’s side have been strong at home recently: they have won three and lost one of their last four matches played at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo, with that lone defeat coming against their arch-rivals Estudiantes, whom they will face on Sunday.

Estudiantes head into the La Plata derby in very good form despite having suffered significant losses through player sales. Last Monday, they earned a deserved 1–0 home win over Deportivo Riestra thanks to a Guido Carrillo goal in the 75th minute and, as a result, moved up to eight points after the first four rounds of the Torneo Apertura, settling into the upper part of Group A and the overall standings. In addition, El Pincha extended their unbeaten run in league play to eight matches (five wins and three draws in regulation time). Away from home, they are unbeaten in five, with three wins and two draws. Edwin Cetré, who had already missed the last two matches while negotiating his move to different clubs, is still a doubt.

I’m going to take the OVER in this derby. Three of the last four times they met had at least two goals, same as all Gimnasia games so far this season. It’s a huge derby and a goal should open things up so I like this short totals line.

BET: OVER 1.75 @ 1.81
