Newell’s – Argentinos Jrs
Newell’s Old Boys continue to improve under manager Cristian Fabbiani. Last Monday, they earned a 2-0 away win over Tigre, who had a chance to return to the top of the standings. With that result, La Lepra extended their unbeaten run in the league to five matches (three wins and two draws), reaching 14 points—just three shy of the final playoff spot. At home, they collected seven of those points (two wins, one draw, and three losses). All regular starters are available for Friday’s match. Argentinos Juniors returned to their usual standards last Sunday, displaying a very high level of football to secure an easy 4-1 home win over Defensa y Justicia. With that result, El Bicho reached 25 points in the Torneo Apertura (seven wins, four draws, and one loss), placing them second in Group A. Additionally, Argentinos are unbeaten in their last six away matches, with three wins and three draws. Newell’s looked really improved in their big win at Tigre last week and thanks to some good results under new coach Cristian Fabianni, they are still alive in the playoffs race just 3 points behind the 8th spot with 4 games left, what means that they have to win as many as possible. Argentinos Jrs comes from a great performance last weekend showing once again that they are the team playing the best football so far in this competition. With the hosts almost in a must win situation and Argentinos playing great attacking football, I think two goals here should be definitely possible.
