Deportivo Riestra vs River Plate
Deportivo Riestra came very close to securing a remarkable victory in their visit to Gimnasia LP last Monday but conceded a goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time, settling for a 1-1 draw. With this result, El Malevo extended their winless streak to six matches (five draws and one loss). However, they remain in the playoff zone in group B with 12 points. Riestra have been unbeaten in their last 16 home matches, winning seven and drawing nine. All first-team players are available for head coach Gustavo Benítez on Saturday.
River Plate showed notable improvement in their last league match but had to work hard to secure a 1-0 home victory over Atlético Tucumán, with Facundo Colidio scoring in the 79th minute. With this win, Marcelo Gallardo’s team bounced back and climbed to third place in Group B with 18 points (five wins, three draws, and only one defeat in the Torneo Apertura). Six of those points came from away games, as River won one and drawn three on the road in 2025.
River clearly has a much important and talented squad but they’ve been quite disappointing so far this season, getting results but not playing well in general. Riestra has a very long undefeated run at home and this handicap looks like one they can cover at home if they defend well as usual.
