Central Cordoba vs Defensa y Justicia
CA Central Córdoba put in a very poor performance in a 1-3 away defeat to Boca Juniors. Sebastián Domínguez’s side managed to make the scoreline look more respectable late on, but the defeat could easily have been heavier. The result extended El Ferroviario’s winless run in the league to five matches, with four defeats and one draw during that spell. They dropped down to bottom spot in Group A of the Torneo Clausura with just seven points. They need to end this poor run soon to avoid making their relegation situation more complicated. In the overall standings, they are currently ten points clear of the relegation places. At home, Central Córdoba have won one and lost three matches this semester. Michael Santos misses out again on Friday. Defensa y Justicia produced an excellent performance to beat Gimnasia Mendoza 2-0 at home in a solid victory that could even have been more convincing. Leandro Fernández and David Barbona scored for Julio Vaccari’s side. It was their fourth win in the last six league matches, with one draw and one defeat during that run. The result lifted El Halcón to third in Group A of the Torneo Clausura, with 17 points, two behind leaders Instituto. They are also continuing to close the gap to the Copa Sudamericana qualification places in the overall standings and are now just four points behind the final spot. Central Cordoba are last in their group after yet another terrible performance in the defeat at Boca, and I can’t see how they will hold this solid Defensa who could be leaders of the group if they win.
