Estudiantes de Rio Cuarto vs Sarmiento
Estudiantes Río Cuarto put in a good performance despite being held to a 1-1 draw away to Huracán last weekend, although draws are no longer enough given the amount of ground they need to make up. They are now winless in five league matches (three draws and two defeats) and have six points in the Torneo Clausura, with 11 points from 23 matches overall this season. They remain comfortably bottom of the average-points table and 29th in the overall standings, meaning they need a miracle to avoid relegation. At home, Estudiantes have collected just two points from the last nine available without scoring a goal. Sarmiento saw their positive run come to an end last Friday, when they were outplayed and lost 4-1 away to Unión Santa Fe. The defeat ended an unprecedented run of four consecutive league wins. However, El Verde are still enjoying an excellent campaign, with 12 points after seven rounds of the Torneo Clausura, leaving them in the Group B playoff qualification places. They also remain in contention for a place in the next Copa Sudamericana: Facundo Sava’s side are five points behind the final qualification place in the overall standings. Despite last week’s defeat, Sarmiento are going through a solid season and are definitely better than this Estudiantes that will be relegated in a few rounds, and won’t have a key player like midfielder Tomas Gonzalez among other injured.
