Gimnasia vs Estudiantes
Gimnasia LP are enjoying their best run of form in many years. On Monday, the team defeated Barracas Central 2–0 away, with goals from Manuel Panaro and Franco Torres. After a traumatic season spent flirting with relegation, El Lobo have now won five matches in a row and sit just two steps away from their first league title since 1929. Gimnasia beat Vélez Sarsfield 2–0 in their most recent home match, ending a streak of three consecutive defeats at the Estadio Juan Carmelo Zerillo. After a very irregular group stage, Estudiantes are showing their best form in the playoffs. Last weekend, the team looked very solid and defeated Central Córdoba 1–0 away, ending the hosts’ seven-match unbeaten run in the league. El Pincha hold on to their dream of winning their second league title in just two seasons —which, in fact, would be their only path to qualifying for an international competition next season. Estudiantes have earned two consecutive wins in the Torneo Clausura, both 1–0 and both away from home. Probably the most important edition of the La Plata derby, a semifinal that could make Gimnasia advance to a final for their first ever league title in almost 100 years and of course Estudiantes wants to avoid that. They met not long ago and Estudiantes beat them easily, but the situation is different now because Gimnasia arrives with huge confidence and playing at home I think they should at least avoid a defeat.
