Gimnasia vs River
Gimnasia LP made a respectable start to the Torneo Clausura but came away empty-handed after a 2-1 defeat away to Racing Club, with the visitors also left frustrated by a penalty appeal that was waved away. El Lobo have now suffered back-to-back league defeats, dropping out of the Copa Sudamericana qualification places in the overall standings. At home, Gimnasia won both of their final two league matches of last semester. Marcelo Torres picked up a muscle injury and is unavailable for Wednesday’s match. On the other hand, Enzo Martínez has completed his two-match suspension and is ready to return. River Plate disappointed their fans once again on Saturday night, losing 1-0 at home to Barracas Central after their Torneo Apertura final defeat to Belgrano and their disappointing Copa Argentina elimination at the hands of Aldosivi. The result marked El Millonario’s second consecutive league defeat and another missed opportunity to break into the Copa Libertadores qualification places, leaving them two points behind the final spot in the overall standings. On the road, River have taken 10 of the last 12 points available in league play. Aníbal Moreno, who was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s match because of a knee injury, will also miss Wednesday’s game. Can’t imagine River having a 3rd consecutive bad performance but at the same time they are not trustable given their defensive mistakes. Gimnasia showed a decent performance against Racing and has been strong at home lately, so I’ll go for the OVER because I can see these two teams scoring here.
