Gimnasia vs Rosario Central
With more fortune than merit and largely supported by goalkeeper Nelson Insfrán, Gimnasia LP returned to winning ways last Friday by defeating newly promoted Gimnasia Mendoza 1-0 away from home thanks to a first-half goal from Marcelo Torres. As a result, El Lobo moved into the upper section of Group A with ten points from the first six rounds of the Torneo Apertura. In addition, Fernando Zaniratto’s side remain unbeaten at home so far this season, with two wins and one draw. All regular starters are available for Wednesday’s match against Rosario Central.
Rosario Central disappointed their fans last Friday, when they delivered a very poor performance and lost 1-0 at home to Talleres. This result brought an end to their four-match unbeaten run in league play (two wins and two draws) and prevented them from continuing to climb the Group B standings, although they still remain inside the playoff qualification zone with eight points.
Rosario Central are a good team but their performances don’t show it. They depend too much on what veteran Angel Di Maria can do for them, and in this game they won’t have their best striker Alejo Veliz, so I think this solid Gimnasia has a chance of at least not losing at home.
