Independiente vs Gimnasia
Independiente continues to strengthen under Julio Vaccari’s leadership. On Wednesday, El Rojo secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Talleres in Córdoba, with Luciano Cabral scoring a stunning winner in stoppage time. With six points from six in the first two rounds, they are one of the leaders in Group B. However, their upward trajectory extends beyond this season: they are now unbeaten in five league matches (four wins and one draw). At home, their record is even more impressive, with a 14-game unbeaten streak (eight wins and six draws).
Gimnasia LP must react quickly to avoid falling into a crisis. On Wednesday, the team delivered a very poor performance and lost 2-0 at home to San Lorenzo. In addition to having yet to earn points in the Torneo Apertura, El Lobo have now suffered five consecutive league defeats without scoring a single goal, a slump that led to the resignation of head coach Marcelo Mendez. As an away team, Gimnasia have gone eight matches without a win, with four losses and four draws since their 1-0 victory over Belgrano in August. Fernando Zaniratto will serve as interim coach this Sunday following Mendez’s departure.
Gimnasia is probably one of the weakest teams in the league right now after a very poor start. Their coach resigned after only 2 rounds, and they will have to face this Independiente in good form that should be able to beat them.
