Racing vs Rosario Central
After their major disappointment in the Torneo Clausura final, Racing Club began the new season with another frustration. Last Saturday, they delivered a very poor performance and were deservedly beaten 2-1 away at Gimnasia LP. That result ended a long unbeaten league run of 13 matches (eight wins and five draws in regular time). At home, Racing remain unbeaten in their last seven domestic competition matches (four wins and three draws). Head coach Gustavo Costas has all his regular starters available for Wednesday’s match against Rosario Central. Rosario Central, winners of the annual table in 2025, suffered a major surprise at the start of the new season, which also marked the debut of their new head coach Jorge Almirón. The team did not play badly, but relaxed after taking the lead and ended up losing 2-1, having been ahead on the scoreboard until the 88th minute. It was Central’s fourth consecutive league match without a win (one draw and three defeats in that stretch). They also lost their most recent away game, a 1-0 defeat to Independiente, which ended a ten-match unbeaten run on the road in league competitions (six wins and four draws). One of the best attacking teams, Racing, hosts the team that made the most points last season, Rosario Central who are led by legend Angel Di Maria. Both unexpectedly lost in the 1st round so they will go for the first points of the season and I expect an entertaining game between two of the best teams in the league.
