Racing vs Tigre
Racing Club let an excellent opportunity slip away last Saturday, when they ended up drawing 1-1 away to Boca Juniors after conceding the equalizer just two minutes from time. As a result, La Academia have collected only four points in the Torneo Clausura and remain unable to close in on the qualification zone for the next Copa Libertadores, having won just one of their last five league matches (one draw and three defeats). At home, La Academia have lost their last three games in this competition (all by 1-0). On Tuesday, August 12, Racing lost 1-0 away at CA Peñarol of Uruguay for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16.
Tigre delivered a lacklustre display last Friday and suffered a deserved 1-0 home defeat to Huracán in a dull encounter. El Matador were knocked out of the Copa Sudamericana qualification zone after winning only one of their last ten league matches (four draws and five losses) and remain on just four points from as many rounds in the Torneo Clausura. Away from home, they are winless in five, with two draws and three defeats in that stretch.
Racing are now 100% focused on next week’s Copa Libertadores return leg where they need to beat the tough Peñarol at home and will rest most of their starters here so even though Tigre has been irregular so far I have to expect them to be able to at least hold to a draw here.
