Rosario Central vs Huracan
Rosario Central took three crucial points away at Atlético Tucumán last Saturday, beating them 3-2 in a highly entertaining match thanks to a superb goal from Julián Fernández in the 80th minute. El Canalla are now unbeaten in six consecutive league matches, with four wins and two draws, and remain one of the leaders in Group B with 25 points. They also achieved something they had been chasing for weeks: third place in the annual table (the final Copa Libertadores qualifying spot). They moved ahead of Independiente Rivadavia on goal difference and are just one point behind leaders Boca Juniors. Huracán suffered an incredible defeat in their last league outing, losing 2-1 at home to Gimnasia LP to a 97th-minute goal, when a draw seemed all but certain and arguably the fairest outcome. It was El Globo’s second consecutive defeat, although they remain in the Group B playoff places, leaving them on 19 points after 13 rounds. They also remain six points behind the final Copa Sudamericana qualifying spot in the annual table. In fact, Diego Martínez’s side have won just one of their last four matches away, drawing one and losing two. Central are clearly a better team than this poor Huracan that are barely hanging to the last playoffs spot of their group. The hosts are fighting to finnish first in the annual table and secure a Copa Libertadores place for next year so this is a win they definitely want to get.
