Tigre – Velez
Tigre were involved in one of the most entertaining matches of Matchday 8, playing out a thrilling 2–2 draw at home against Gimnasia LP. While they are now winless in their last three league outings —two draws and one defeat— El Matador continue to enjoy an excellent Torneo Apertura campaign. With 15 points, they sit second in Group B, just two behind leaders Independiente Rivadavia and three adrift of overall table toppers Vélez Sarsfield. Tigre have also extended their unbeaten home run to ten league matches, recording five wins and five draws during that stretch. Vélez Sarsfield are enjoying an outstanding run of form. In one of the standout fixtures of Matchday 8, they defeated Estudiantes — who had been level with them at the top of Group A — 1–0 away from home, with Florian Monzón scoring the decisive goal in the 58th minute. El Fortín remain unbeaten in the Torneo Apertura and now stand alone at the top of the overall table with 18 points, the result of five wins and three draws. On the road, Vélez have taken eight points from a possible 12 in 2026, underlining their consistency both home and away. Diego Valdés and Matías Pellegrini continue to recover from their respective muscle injuries. Velez are leaders of Group A and will play against Tigre, the 2nd placed team in Group B so I have to expect a good game between these two teams that have been playing some of the best football in the league. Tigre at home has scored in all 4 games this season, including 3 against Racing, and 2 last week against Gimnasia, same as Velez away; they have scored in all 4 games outside their stadium this year so I expect to have at least 2 goals here.
