Estudiantes de Rio Cuarto vs Gimnasia
Estudiantes Río Cuarto once again showed plenty of dignity despite having already been condemned to relegation. However, being a man down made things difficult, and they could not hold on to their lead before eventually losing 2-1 away at Barracas Central. With just one win in their last 13 matches, alongside three draws and nine defeats, El León del Imperio remain bottom of Group B with nine points. They are also last in both the annual table and the average-points table, and are already looking ahead to next season in the second division. Estudiantes won their last home match, beating Aldosivi 2-1 and ending a five-game winless run at their stadium, during which they drew twice and lost three times. Gonzalo Maffini is suspended following his red card in the last game.
Gimnasia LP confirmed their excellent form last Friday with a convincing 2-0 home win over Sarmiento, thanks to goals from Ignacio Fernández and Franco Torres. They are now unbeaten in eight league matches, with four wins and four draws, and have secured their place in the Clausura playoffs. Gimnasia sit third in Group B with 25 points, three behind leaders Rosario Central and Argentinos Juniors. They have also virtually secured international qualification for next season through the annual table. Currently eighth, they are comfortably inside the Copa Sudamericana qualifying places, while still holding out hope of reaching the Copa Libertadores, sitting five points behind the team in third and waiting for more spots to open up.
Estudiantes are just waiting for these last two games to end so they can go on vacations before next season in 2nd division, Gimnasia are in great form, fighting for a Copa Libertadores place and hoping to secure home advantage for the playoffs so I think they should win here.
